Witch hunters are cool, right? Think of Victor Saltzpyre of Verminttide 2, or one of those characters of Grizzly players that you made for Mordheim. Always right? They are a fantastic version of a 40k inquisitor, or quite close. Think Eisenhorn with a flint gun.
For those of you who are not interested in Warhammer, a witch hunter is generally an old graying veteran who has devoted his life to terrorizing magic people across the country. They tend to handle an archaic firearm and an impressive sword. Halfway through my first admitted game, my sweet sorcerer ended up with a similar load. Then I had an idea.
Bend the rules
My problem was that I wanted to use magic. I know that I already have a wizard construction, but there are magic swords and magic pistols and magic wands and magic spells that I do not want to miss. The crucial problem here is that witch hunters tend to hunting Witches rather than using their magic objects.
I therefore transplanted an inquisitor of 40K in the avowed universe. Yeah, I mix fantasy and science fiction parameters here. What are you going to do about it?
There is enough of this idea that it makes sense. The 40K inquisitors are unpleasant work, these are the tools of the emperor who will promulgate his will without reflection at the price. Exterminatus an entire planet because you have a puff of heresy? GOOD. Assassin the population of billions of people from an entire city due to the presence of cults in the sewers under their feet? Her.
As long as they protect the worlds won in the Great Crusade, the ends justify the means of the Inquisition. Like the Aedyrans, they would have no qualms about invading living lands, to subjugate its inhabitants and to install a despotic regime of mercies ruthless to keep people online.
Armed with a flamboyant sword, a lightning pistol and a devastating book of spells, my inquisitor of the Ordo Adyreus was ready to run the first head of living land and to reign with a brutal fist.
Inquisitor against Inquisitor
There is only one problem with all this concept, and its name is Lodwyn. Without a doubt, the best-designed admitted character has to offer, Inquisitor Lodwyn is (or at least seems to be so far) the main antagonist of the game. How could we justify two inquisitors in one game? It is quite simply.
First, I do not play a real Warhammer 40K inquisitor. Although you can find a convoluted reason to explain why aircraft events take place in a world in the universe 40K and the emperor has decided to send a lonely inquisitor to bring it into conformity, I will not go so deep with my role -playing game here.
My character is not In fact An inquisitor. I’m just playing a character who thinks, acts and is designed as one. I am not Eisenhorn or Greyfax, I am just a unscrupulous and approved guy colonizing an entire continent in the name of my lord.
And as for Lodwyn? Personally, I almost admire it. She has iron fists – and a boss armor combination – that my inquisitor wants him to have. I can only hope that, on this unquilled “Evil” quote Playyroughrush, I can align myself fully. Maybe I’m going to supplant it, maybe I will be her faithful Lapdog forever. Who can say?
It’s been a while since I did a completely evil game of an RPG. I tried it with Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3, but I did not do it in Act 2. The game is simply too big! The lawyer, however, is much more manageable, and passing him a few times in the busiest month of 2025 with regard to video game releases is a relative breeze.
On a more serious note, I am happy that I have admitted you to participate in this measure. Be able to play the villain (or, at least, A Bad Guy) is nothing new, it is not revolutionary, but it shows that there are available role -playing options. Will I replay Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Never. There could be major branching decisions that I am vaguely interested in seeing the other side, but my character will always be bland as a cafementory sponge cake.
Avoyed allows you to be a goodie, a bad guy, or a dit-rien. And these role play opportunities are what makes RPG vibrate. Now give me my pistol because I have paradisans to align.
